history

The church was built between 1888 and 1895 in neo -Gothic style according to plans by the architect and cathedral builder Reinhold Wirtz . The construction work was delayed due to a lack of money.

In 1990 an outdoor lighting system was installed, which was supplemented in 2002 from the Josefstrasse side. In 2005 the church underwent a comprehensive restoration and structural analyzes were carried out.

Furnishing

The church has tall historicist stained glass windows with ornaments . The church windows above the side altars show motifs from the life of Mary and St. Joseph, including the rare motif depicting the death of St. Joseph on one of the church windows in St. Joseph's Chapel. The high church windows in the choir show realistic depictions of St. Barbara , St. Elisabeth , St. Francis and St. Aloysius as well as in the center of the series of pictures Jesus with cross and God the Father with scepter and globe. Inside the church there are saints with representations of the Heart of Jesus , the Heart of Mary , St. Barbara and St. Anthony .

The church's furnishings also include the Way of the Cross in the two side aisles created in 1910 by the painter Potthast ( Wiesbaden ) . These are almost oversized paintings painted on copper plates , which are framed by almost classical or neo-Romanesque drawings . The high altar in the choir was created in 1937 by the sculptor Louis Kiefer (Trier) and has wood carvings with rare depictions of the death of St. Joseph and the marriage of St. Joseph to Our Lady. It also shows realistic representations of St. Joseph and the Holy Family . The sacrificial altar made of light limestone and the ambo in front of the high altar were made by the sculptor Thomas Fehr (Trier), who created it in 2003.

There are also old confessionals in the church .

organ

The organ of the church was built in 1983 by Hugo Mayer Orgelbau ( Heusweiler ) and has 27 registers , distributed over two manuals and a pedal . During the construction of the instrument, the Mayer company took over a large part of the pipework from the predecessor organ of the Georg Stahlhuth company from 1900.
