The St. Mauritius Church is a Catholic parish church in Alsweiler in the Saarland , a district of the municipality of Marpingen , district of St. Wendel . The patron saint of the church is Saint Mauritius . In the list of monuments of the Saarland, the church is a single monument listed.

history

Parish

As part of the parish Tholey in the Diocese of Trier , Alsweiler came to the Diocese of Metz in 1795 . In 1800 Alsweiler became a vicarie and finally in 1805 a parish. In 1825 Alsweiler came back to the diocese of Trier.

Church building

For the year 1408 one was in Alsweiler Saints - Chapel called and in 1569 a chapel dedicated to St. Mauritius. A new nave was added to the tower of this chapel in 1803 .

The current church building was built between 1829 and 1831 according to plans by Johann Martin Fladt.
In 1947 the sacristy was torn down and rebuilt in an enlarged form. In the years 1950 to 1951, the church was expanded by two aisles according to plans by building officer Reif from St. Wendel . In 1978 the church roof was re-roofed and a staircase was added to the sacristy. From 1980 to 1983 the interior of the church was redesigned.

Furnishing

The church's furnishings include several figures of saints , including a figure of Saint Barbara restored in the 1980s , which was purchased in 1899. In the chancel there is a wall mosaic by the Saarland artist Ferdinand Selgrad from 1957, which depicts the Holy Trinity .
The two side altars flanking the chancel, which the church received in 1833, are among the oldest parts of the furnishings. The
pulpit , made by the local carpenter Matthias Keller in 1845 , is no longer there. The way of the cross on the walls of the aisles dates from 1935, the sacrament altar from 1955.

organ

The church received its first organ in 1861. It was an instrument with ten registers . In 1869 two registers were added. In 1902, EF Walcker & Cie. the second organ as Opus 999. It had 18 stops. In 1938 the church received its third as part of a reconstruction of the gallery . Today's fourth organ was built in 1990 by Hugo Mayer Orgelbau ( Heusweiler ). The slider chests -instrument has 24 stops on two manuals and pedal . The action mechanism is mechanical, the stop action is electric. The disposition is as follows.
