The Roman Catholic branch church St. Nikolaus in the district Burkhardsrieth of the Upper Palatinate city of Pleystein belongs to the branch Burkhardsrieth of the "Parish Pleystein" in the dean's office of Leuchtenberg of the diocese of Regensburg .

history

In the oldest parish register of the Diocese of Regensburg from 1326 Burkhardsrieth is noted as a separate parish. At that time she belonged to the dean's office in Altendorf . It remained an independent parish until the Counter-Reformation , from 1627 it became a branch of Pleystein. From 1722 a separate cooperator was installed here. In 1936 Burkhardsrieth became an exposed cooperative.

The church's income was made up of interest and tithe payments from a variety of locations (e.g. Miesbrunn , Pfrentsch , Spielhof , Lohma , Isgier ) and individual objects (e.g. Bodenmühle, Finstermühle , Marxmühle , Pielmühle , paper mill near Ödenkührieth Thomasgschieß , Trutzhofmühle , Zengerhof). From 1852 the tithe was no longer levied in kind , but as a cash payment. Therefore, the Zehentstadel could be auctioned on August 17, 1851 to August Lang von Burkhardsrieth and canceled. The parish grounds (fields, meadows, forest) were cultivated by the pastor or his servants himself until 1627, from then on they were leased to farmers.

A church building that must have existed for a long time is only mentioned at the beginning of the 18th century, but medieval archaeological traces have been found in the area of the church. In 1797 the church is described as dilapidated. The care administrator Prößl and the Pleysteiner pastor Mayer defend themselves against the accusation of having let the church deteriorate. At least this year construction work will be carried out (for example, a vault will be drawn in over the high altar), and further construction work was also started in 1822.

On July 29, 1879, the church was destroyed by fire; the services had to be held temporarily in the St. Ulrich Church , from June 7, 1881, they could then be celebrated in the sacristy , which had been converted into an emergency church, with the approval of the bishop . In 1882, the reconstruction of the church was completed and in the same year, she was of pastor Michael Röck benediziert . The Way of the Cross was consecrated on August 8th, 1887 by the Franciscan Father Johann Bock from Pfreimd. It was not until October 16, 1966 that the church was solemnly consecrated by Auxiliary Bishop Josef Hiltl .

The church was renovated in 1964 under the direction of architect Heinz Meckler from Weiden . At the end of the village renewal measures in Burkhardsrieth, a fountain was set up on the church forecourt on July 27, 2011.
