St. Vitus

The Evangelical Lutheran , listed church of St. Vitus is in Leutenthal , a district of the rural community Ilmtal-Weinstrasse in the Weimarer Land district of Thuringia . The parish Leutenthal belongs to the parish Buttelstedt in Kirchenkreis Apolda Buttstaedt the Evangelical Church in Central Germany .

The northern steeple of the massive hall church is of Romanesque origin. The rectangular choir was not added until the 15th century. In 1717–19 the nave and the choir were given their current appearance. The tower has an eight-sided pointed tent roof . The nave is covered with a half-hip roof. The interior is covered with a wooden painted barrel vault , the northern part is flat-roofed , has two-storey galleries , the parapets depict theLast Supper , the baptism of Jesus and the praise of angels, surrounded by prophets. In 1719 they were painted with representations from the Old Testament and the New Testament , and in 1882 the original condition was restored. The pulpit altar in the form of a Christmas pyramid dates from 1719. The platform with the pulpit rests on four naturalistic palm trees. The pyramidal structure with tendrils begins behind it. The shrine of a winged altar from the 1st half of the 15th century was restored in 1882 and last in 1986. In its center stands a blessing Jesus Christ , flanked by Mary and John the Baptist . On each side there were three male saints, z. Are currently outsourced. The organ with 18 registers , divided into 2 manuals and pedal , was built in 1750 by Adalbert Förtsch , in 1850 by Friedrich Erdmann Petersilie and restored in 1967 by Helmut Hildebrand. The church was renovated in 1897, 1985/86 and 1995.
