history
The “Stadio Via del Mare” replaced the Stadio Carlo Pranzo , which until 1966 was the home of the US Lecce. The “Via del Mare” was inaugurated on September 11, 1966 with the game between US Lecce and Spartak Moscow . This game ended 1-1 and was watched by around 13,000 spectators. At that time the stadium offered space for 16,000 spectators. In 1976 the capacity was increased to 20,500. In 1985, US Lecce rose to Serie A for the first time . For this reason, the capacity was increased to 55,000 seats, but was later reduced again to 33,876 seats.
