Reservoirs in Ukraine

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Reservoirs in Ukraine are primarily used to generate electricity through hydropower , but they also serve as excursion destinations, drinking and process water reservoirs . The power plants are operated jointly and are known under the term "Gidro-Elektro-Stancija". In 1925, the GOELRO plan began building the dams in Zaporizhia . The GOELRO plan was passed in 1920 and thus laid down the long-term power supply plans originally for Soviet Russia, later the USSR , and thus also for the Ukrainian SSR .

Reservoirs on the Dnieper

Kiev Reservoir

The Dnepr is the largest river in the country and connects the main reservoirs of Ukraine . There are six of the largest reservoirs on the Dnieper .

Downstream these are:

Reservoirs on the Southern Bug

The largest of the total of 13 reservoirs on the Southern Bug is located near Ladytschyn ( Ladytschyn reservoir ). The dam of this lake was completed in 1964. It has an area of 20.8 km². Its volume is around 0.15 km³ of water at high water levels.

The fish stocks are of economic importance, especially pike and pikeperch.

The Bug does not play a role as a transport route due to the rapids in the middle reaches and the relatively low water level that fluctuates over the year.

Reservoirs on Siversky Donets

The Pechenihy reservoir near Pechenihy has existed since 1962. It serves as a water supply for the city of Kharkiv . The lake in the Kharkiv Oblast is fed by the Siversky Donets . The Petschenihy reservoir has an area of 86.2 km².
