biography

Stefan Brennsteiner comes from Niedernsill in Oberpinzgau and starts for his home club. After he had previously started in FIS races , he made his European Cup debut on January 15, 2011 in the giant slalom in Kirchberg . He won his first points the following season with 23rd place in the Trysil slalom . Four years later, in December 2015, he was able to finish a race on the podium for the first time at the same location with second place in the giant slalom. In Val-d'Isère , he followed up with another podium. At the end of the 2015/16 season , he triumphed in the overall giant slalom ranking without having won a race, thus securing a fixed starting position for the coming World Cup winter.

Brennsteiner made his World Cup debut on October 28, 2012 in the giant slalom in Sölden . In February 2014, he won points for the first time with 23rd place in St. Moritz . It wasn't until two years later that he was able to re-enter the World Cup rankings with a 26th place in Kranjska Gora in 2016. So far he has only competed in giant slaloms. On October 23, 2016, at the World Cup opener in Sölden, he tore a cruciate ligament and an inner ligament in his left knee. In his comeback season in December 2017, he achieved his best result in a World Cup race with 13th place on the Gran Risa . In Adelboden he was able to surpass this again with twelfth place.

With these achievements he qualified for the Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang . On February 18, he started in the giant slalom and finished 14th after the first run. In the second run he fell with an excellent last interim time and tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee. Shortly after his comeback, he was able to classify himself among the top ten of a World Cup race for the first time by finishing ninth in the parallel giant slalom in Alta Badia . He also achieved this result at his first world championship in Åre . A year later he celebrated two European Cup victories in Kirchberg , but three weeks later he suffered a lateral meniscus and cartilage injury in his left knee at the World Cup parallel giant slalom in Chamonix .
