Stefan George (politician)

Stefan George (in official documents Stefan George I ) (born March 19, 1806 in Ruplingen , † October 31, 1888 in Büdesheim ) was a Hessian landowner and politician and a member of the 2nd Chamber of the Estates of the Grand Duchy of Hesse .

Stefan George was the son of the landowner Jakob George (1774-1833) and his wife Susanna, née Schneider. George, who was a Catholic, was a landowner in Büdesheim and married Magdalena, nee Easter, on March 19, 1831.

From 1851 to 1853, 1856 to 1862, 1865 to 1875 and finally from 1878 to 1879 he was a member of the Second Chamber of the Estates. He was elected for the constituencies of Bingen-Stadt, Bingen-Land and Ober-Ingelheim-Gau-Algesheim . From 1837 to 1865 he was mayor of Büdesheim.

He was the great-uncle and godfather of the eponymous poet Stefan George .
