From 1995 to 1997 he studied cultural management at the Saxon Administration and Business Academy in Dresden and began studying musicology , German literature and philosophy at the TU Dresden in 1996 , which he broke off in 1997. His teachers were Rainer Lischka , Lars Juling and Henry Walther . In 2001, Jänke wrote his diploma thesis on the repertoire of Saxon evangelical church music , paying particular attention to popular musical styles . He passed his exam the following year with his Passion Oratorio ... that left a new beginning , the libretto of which was written by the Dresden theologian Frank Richter . This work was also performed by the Neue Elbland Philharmonie in 2005 during the meeting days of World Youth Day in the Leipzig Propsteikirche and the Dresden Kreuzkirche . The musical collaboration with Richter was continued in later compositions by Jänke.

Jänke has been working as a freelance choir director with children's and youth choirs, mixed choirs and male choirs in Saxony and Brandenburg since 1994 . Concert and encounter trips have taken him with his ensembles through Germany, but also to Poland , Lithuania , Switzerland , Hungary , Romania , Tanzania and Sri Lanka . Some of these trips abroad were also funded by the Goethe Institute . Among other things, he conducted choral appearances during the nationwide opening of the carol singers campaign 2001/2002 in the Dresden Hofkirche , and the opening event of the Year of the Bible in Dresden 2003, which was broadcast live on ARD . In 2008, the children's choir of the Dresden-Meißen diocese blessed the Berlin Federal Chancellery as a carol singer , and at the reception by Angela Merkel , the musical program of the ceremony was directed by Jänke. He also repeatedly took part in concerts by Rolf Zuckowski .

After completing his studies, he worked for ten years as a lecturer in audiation / sentence singing at the “Carl Maria von Weber” music academy in Dresden. Since 2010, the choir classes at a Großenhain primary school have been set up and directed by Jänke. As part of his work at the Großenhain grammar school , he also supported the then student Robin Hoffmann . Stefan Jänke is the cantor of Mühlberg in the Bad Liebenwerda church district .

The musician is married and has two children. He lives in Großenhain.

Musical creation

Jänke composes music in which styles of so-called “ serious ” and “ entertaining ” music overlap. The focus of his work is in the field of choral music and music for brass instruments . At the premiere of the musical oratorio ... and who can be transformed with the Neue Lausitzer Philharmonie and the Dresden Michael Fuchs Band in 2008, the Sächsische Zeitung wrote that Jänke "has combined elements of pop music and classical music for his work, and therefore a band belongs to the choir, soloists and orchestra ”, and for the 2008 performance of the oratorio … and then comes peace “ Jänke […] is breaking new ground with his musical oratorios ”.

The Großenhain composer has also made commissioned compositions, such as adaptations of themes from Richard Wagner's operas for big bands , which were premiered at the Dresden Music Festival in 2002. A later performance in 2003 was broadcast live by the radio station MDR Kultur . For the 3rd Saxon State Horticultural Show in 2002, Jänke wrote the hymn Dream of Nature. The organ piece ... he guard your exit and entrance was realized for the Lausitzer Musiksommer 2010, as was Bautzner Turmmusik 2000 and 2008. On behalf of the Saxon Music Council , the night piece for bassoon and piano was created in 2006 , which symbolizes various dream phases.

For the Saxon trombone mission and the Munich brass quintet Harmonic Brass , Jänke created several wind compositions that were also used on their CD releases.
