distribution

The spread of the name Stefanie had increased sharply in Germany during the 1960s. In the 70s and 80s, the name consistently belonged to the ten most frequently given female first names in Germany and in the early 80s it was even number one in the frequency statistics a few times. Its popularity has steadily declined since the beginning of the 90s, so that its frequency has now dropped back to the level of the 50s. In Austria it was at times one of the three most common first names in the 80s and 90s.
