The Stemberg (formerly also called Stemmberg ) at Holzhausen-Externsteine in the North Rhine-Westphalian district of Lippe is 401.9  m above sea level. NHN high mountain in the Teutoburg Forest .

Geographical location

The Stemberg is located in the southeast of the Teutoburg Forest in the Teutoburger Wald / Eggegebirge nature park around 1.8 km southeast of the Detmold district of Berlebeck , directly west or above Holzhausen-Externsteine , a district of Horn-Bad Meinberg , and 2.3 km (each Beeline ) northeast of the Gauseköte pass .

To the north, the Stemberg falls into the valley of the Werre tributary Wiembecke , and to the south-east, beyond the southern part of Holzhausen-Externsteine, is the Bärenstein ( 317.6  m ) with the Externsteine on the other side . To the south lies the Falkenberg ( 345.2  m ), the ruins of the Falkenburg ( 372.6  m ) built between 1190 and 1194 are located on a neighboring mountain to the southwest or near foothills of the Stembergs, and the Düsterlau ( 417.4  m ) rises to the west- northwest. .
