Stephen "Steve" Webb (born April 20, 1975 in Peterborough , Ontario ) is a former Canadian ice hockey player who played 335 games for the New York Islanders and Pittsburgh Penguins in the National Hockey League between 1992 and 2004 ( NHL) on the right winger position . In addition, Webb, who embodied the player type of an enforcer , completed over 130 games in the American Hockey League (AHL).

Career

Webb spent his junior years in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) between 1992 and 1995 . Initially, the winger was active in the 1992/93 season for the Windsor Spitfires , who had selected him in the OHL Priority Selection in the summer of 1992 . Shortly after the start of the following season he moved within the league to the Peterborough Petes , which he was under contract with the team from his hometown Peterborough . After the end of the game year Webb was selected in the NHL Entry Draft in 1994 in the seventh round in 176th place by the Buffalo Sabers from the National Hockey League (NHL). As a result of his third year with the juniors, the offensive player finally switched to the professional field.

Since the Buffalo Sabers refrained from the obligation of their draft pick, Webb found himself in the 1995/96 season first in the Colonial Hockey League (CoHL), where he ran up for the Muskegon Fury . His physical style of play paired with his qualities in the offensive game - he collected 42 points scorer in 58 encounters - also brought him four appearances in the higher class International Hockey League (IHL) with the Detroit Vipers during the season . In addition, he received in October 1996 as a free agent a contract with the New York Islanders from the NHL, after Buffalo had continued to refrain from a contract offer and the transfer rights to him had expired two years after the draft.

The Canadian was in the service of the Islanders for a total of seven seasons. After he was in the first three years between the NHL squad of New York and those of the farm teams Kentucky Thoroughblades (1996-1998) and Lowell Lock Monsters (1998-1999) commuted from the American Hockey League (AHL), he received at the season 1999/2000 the long-awaited regular place in the NHL. The attacker kept this beyond the following season, in which he was only used 31 times due to a knee injury. After his contract had expired at the end of the 2002/03 season , he received in October 2003 - again as a free agent - a contract with the Philadelphia Flyers . There he did not get into the NHL squad, however, as he was selected by the Pittsburgh Penguins when he went through the waiver list . With the exception of five games for Pittsburgh, he spent the game year until March 2004 with their cooperation partner Wilkes-Barre / Scranton Penguins in the AHL, before he returned to the New York Islanders through a transfer. They had exchanged him for defense attorney Alain Nasreddine . Webb completed eleven games for the Isles and twelve more for their AHL farm team Bridgeport Sound Tigers by the end of the season, before he declared his career at the end of the season at the age of 29 due to chronic pain for over.
