Steyrling ( pronunciation ? / I ) is a village, a locality and a cadastral municipality in the municipality of Klaus an der Pyhrnbahn  in the Kirchdorf an der Krems district in Upper Austria . Audio file / audio sample

geography

The village of Steyrling lies at 520  m above sea level. A. in the valley of the river of the same name , around 2.5 km above its confluence with the Steyr dammed up to Lake Klauser . In addition to the village of Steyrling, the village includes the Rotten Brunnental, Gaisriegl, Höbach, Kefer, Lengau and Redtenbach, as well as numerous individual farms, hunting lodges and alpine pastures. The village of Steyrling has 566 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020) and thus more than the municipality capital Klaus.

The area of ​​the cadastral community of Steyrling is 90.8 km² and covers a large part of the catchment area of ​​the Steyrling. It extends from around 500 to 2185  m above sea level. A. (Teufelsmauer), striking elevations are also the Kremsmauer ( 1599  m above sea level ), the Kasberg ( 1747  m above sea level ) and the mountain ridge that extends from the Kleiner Priel ( 2136  m above sea level ) to the Zwillingkogel ( 2184  m above sea level ).

history

The Steyrlingtal was settled relatively late; for a long time it served as a manorial hunting area. Clearance is only known from the second half of the 13th century. The area was first used economically, coal piles were built, lead mines were built in Kaltau on the southern slope of the Kremsmauer around 1480 and a glassworks on Zösenbach at the beginning of the 17th century . Today's village of Steyrling developed around the scythe smiths "Am Hirschenstein", "Am Grünanger" and "An der Schleifen" on the Traglbach, which were first mentioned around 1580. By the end of the 18th century, Steyrling already had around 600 inhabitants. The first school was built around 1765. In 1854 the foundation stone was laid for the Church of the Immaculate Conception of Mary , which was consecrated in 1863 by Bishop Franz Joseph Rudigier . Initially a branch of Klaus, Steyrling was raised to an independent parish in 1886.

Steyrling is accessed by a district road that branches off from the Pyhrnpassstrasse and has its own train station on the Pyhrnbahn . The Dorfmobil Klaus-Steyrling-Kniewas connects the village with the other districts of the community.
