Still Climbing is the title of the fourth and final studio album by the US hard rock / blues rock band Cinderella , released in 1994 .

background

Cinderella had her greatest commercial success in 1988 with her second album Long Cold Winter , which reached the top ten on the Billboard charts in the USA and made it to number 24 in Germany. The album had been awarded two platinum awards in the year it was released in the US . She was unable to repeat this success with the Heartbreak Station , published in 1990, but it was enough for 19th place and a platinum award in the USA as well as chart listings in Great Britain (36th place) and Germany (34th place).

1991, nor during the tour to Heartbreak Station, singer Tom Keifer had a neurologically -related paralysis ( paresis ) of the laryngeal muscles suffered. Due to the necessary treatment and the subsequent healing process, the recordings for the group's planned fourth album had to be postponed several times. In order to be able to sing again, it was necessary to train the vocal cords with the help of speech therapists , voice trainers and singing teachers so that they could be used again for singing. Keifer also underwent six operations in total .

Drummer Fred Coury left the band and formed the band Arcade with former Ratt singer Stephen Pearcy , with whom he recorded two albums for Epic Records.

Tom Keifer ( vocals , electric and acoustic guitars and slide guitar ), Eric Brittingham ( electric bass ) and Jeff LaBar (guitar) contributed to the recordings for Still Climbing . All drum recordings were made by Kenny Aronoff , only the song Hot & Bothered , which was created and produced in 1992 for the film Wayne's World , was recorded by Fred Coury at the time. Other guest musicians added to the recordings, including Jay Davidson ( saxophone ), Steve Jankowski ( trumpet ), Rosanna McNamara ( violin ) and Gary Corbett ( keyboards ), producer John Purdell also contributed the Hammond organ , piano and percussion .

The album was released on November 8, 1994 as CD and MC , in the USA an LP made of transparent vinyl was also offered. As singles , the songs were Bad Attitude Shuffle, Freewheelin ' and All Comes Down decoupled.

reception

Still climbing reached number 178 on the US charts . It is the only Cinderella album that has not received an award ( gold record ) from the RIAA . In Great Britain the album was comparatively successful with number 88 in the charts, in Germany it could not even place. None of the published singles reached the charts, either in the US or in Europe.

Thomas Kupfer wrote in Rock Hard that Cinderella have “always been one of those acts in the USA that have won one platinum award after another.” In Europe the band was known more “for soulful ballads than their blues-influenced hard rock” , about "a certain insider status" she never got out here. With their fourth album, the group “knows how to surprise positively.” It is “simply good to have an album presented between all the grunge , alternative and spanking releases that is simply fun”. The group does not have any “groundbreaking new” to offer, they “rely on the tried and tested combination of good blues rockers and ballads,” but with Blood From A Stone they “also have a number up their sleeve that leaves the well-known scheme” and “one pleasant surprise moment ”. Particularly well the group is always, "if they are not the expectations of the listener" satisfy, but put on the pace and also new influences do not close, "without, however, deny their roots." Free Wheelin ' but remember "suspicious Speed King and Highway Star by Deep Purple , “which doesn't change the eight-point score.
