The vocal strain , even vocal strain called, in North Rhine-Westphalia is a near Meschede lying and 541.1  m above sea level. NHN high mountain pass of the North Sauerland Oberland in the Soest district near the border with the Hochsauerland district .

geography

location

The voting trunk lies in the Plackwald , part of the North Sauerland Oberland , in the Arnsberg Forest Nature Park . In the south of the Soest district, it is 5.1 km south-southwest of the outskirts of Warstein and just under 3 km (as the crow flies ) north-northeast of the outskirts of Meschede in the neighboring Hochsauerland district ; the border between the two districts runs at least 150 m southeast of the pass. The vocal trunk is surrounded by the forest of the nature park.

Waters

The vocal strain is on the watershed between Möhne the north and dysentery in the South: The water of the streams, such as Bilstein and Wideybach the north spring from the high position of the pass, flowing ultimately northward aspiring Wester to the Ruhr inflow Möhne. On the other hand, that of the short brooks that swell south of this high altitude runs through the Gebke, flowing south-west, to the Rhine tributary Ruhr.

Course of the road

About the vocal strain leads between Belecke and Meschede , the Federal Highway 55 : From around 11 kilometers (distance) north-northeast of the pass in Belecke standing Möhne bridge (about  255  m height) runs predominantly südsüdwestwärts directional road - with intermittent slight rise before the close to the ( former) Warsteiner Reckhammer bridge (approx. 280  m high) leading  over the Wester tributary Schorenbach - through Warstein and over the pass to the Ruhr bridge ( Antonius bridge ; approx.  263  m high) in nearby Meschede. The north ramp has one lane in each direction of travel and the south ramp has one down lane and two up lanes in the uphill area close to the pass.

Pass height

Directly at the top of the pass, a forest path branches off from federal road 55 in a southeastern direction, which divides the route with the Plackweg . This former trade and current hiking trail leads on both sides of the pass over the high elevations of the North Sauerland Oberland - in the east past the Lörmecke tower, around 2.8 km from the pass, and in the west past the telecommunications tower Meschede, which is around 1.5 km west-southwest of the pass . About 360 m southwest of the pass, on the B 55, you will find the Voice Stamm Inn (district of Warstein); While there is the height indication " 542  m " on the house , topographic maps show 540.48  m as the height indication in front of the building. Around 130 m southwest of the inn there is a Naturfreundehaus in the forest (district Eversberg ), and about 1,050 m (depending on the beeline) southwest of the pass branches off from the B 55 at around 498  m above sea level, the state road  856, which leads past the Meschede telecommunications tower northwards to Hirschberg leads.

history

The voting trunk was in the former state of Prussia on the border of the former Arnsberg and Meschede districts and was a transit station for road traffic on the Minden –Meschede– Koblenz road, which was modernized from 1816 to 1828 . At that time a guards house and next to it a lifting point house was built in which road tolls were collected in one room until 1875 ; Travelers could be entertained. The stagecoaches (replaced by postbuses from 1921) on the Meschede– Lippstadt post line paused on site . The Voice Stamm Inn is now located in the former lifting point house .

After the end of the Second World War (1939–1945), numerous crimes occurred after the prison camps were closed in the Wahlstamm . Among other things, on June 8, 1945, Brother Virgil Wilhelm was possibly murdered by marauding foreign workers. He was the first monk to return to Königsmünster Abbey in Meschede after being driven out by the National Socialists . A memorial stone at the junction of the road to Hirschberg reminds of this.
