Strauch is a northern part of the North Rhine-Westphalian municipality of Simmerath in the city region of Aachen in the administrative district of Cologne .

geography

Immediately to the east is the Simmerath district of Steckenborn . The small district of Weidenbroich is located between Strauch and Steckenborn. The Tiefenbach and Bühlersbach flow west of Rollesbroich.

history

Around 1560, Strauch belongs to the Simmerath parish. Strauch later belongs to the Kesternich office in the Monschau district .

Until the end of 1971, Strauch belonged as an independent municipality to the Monschau district, which was also dissolved (see Aachen Law ). On January 1, 1972, the place was incorporated into Simmerath.

Culture and sights

The Catholic parish church of St. Matthias from 1921/23 is located in the village .

The place is on the L 246 between Nideggen ( Düren district ) and Simmerath-Mitte. The next junction is Aachen-Brand on the A 44 .

Water storage power plant

Trianel planned a pumped storage power plant with an output of 640 megawatts between Schmidt and Strauch . The project was rejected again in 2013.
