Swanton Village is a village in the town of Swanton in Franklin County , Vermont , United States with a population of 2386 (according to the 2010 census). The Village Swanton is located in the northeast town of Swanton. A route on the Vermont and Canada Railroad led to Swanton Village. The Missisquoi River flows in a north-westerly direction through the western part of the village and flows into Lake Champlain a few kilometers away.
history
The first traces of settlement in the area can be found as early as 8000 BC. Further archaeological finds prove the presence of today's Abenaki in the area from 800 BC. Chr.
Village Swanton is the main settlement area of Town Swanton. It was given independent rights on November 27, 1888. It is the economic center of the town and is where shops, the library, schools and churches are located. The Village green with the Royal Swans, a gift from Queen Elizabeth II from 1961, is also located here.
On the National Register of Historic Places in Swanton Village are the First Congregational Church of Swanton , the Methodist Episcopal Church , the Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, and the Swanton School .
