Geographical location
Bakersfield is in the Green Mountains , about 30 kilometers east of Lake Champlain . In southeast Franklin County on the border with Lamoille County . A few smaller streams run through the town, which flow in a northerly direction or in a westerly direction like the Black Creek into the Missisquoi River . The surface is hilly, the highest point is the 577 m high Peaked Mountain

history
The Bakersfield Grant was proclaimed on February 27, 1787. The grant was confirmed in favor of Luke Knowlton on January 25, 1791. In 1787, Joseph Baker was the first settler in the town, the second owner, who also bought the entire area in 1798 or 1799. The town in Bakersfield was named after him. The original owner Luke Knowlton (or Knoulton) to whom the grant had been awarded can also be found in official names: the name Bakersfield alias Knoultons Gore occasionally appears in old files . In 1792 parts of Fairfield and the former Smithfield were added to the parish, in 1795 the former Knights Gore and 1963 Averys Gore . Originally the grant covered an area of 10,000 acres (4,047 hectares ). With these land additions, the size grew to 26,000 acres (10,522 hectares).
The Brigham Academy was founded by the town in 1878. This was made possible by a donation from Peter Bent Brigham, a philanthropist and son of the town. It was active as a secondary school until 1966. Well-known graduates were Warren Austin and Mary Jane Safford . The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1995 .
The residents live primarily from forestry and forestry; Since around 1970, the place has increasingly developed into a dormitory city for commuters to the industrial centers to the south.

In the center of town, Vermont Route 108 , which runs north-south from Enosburgh in the north to Cambridge in the south, crosses with Vermont Route 36, which runs west to St. Albans . There is no Amtrak station in Bakersfield. The next one is in St. Albans.

The Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans is the closest hospital for residents of the Town.
education
Bakersfield is one of Berkshire, Enosburg, Montgomery and Richford to Franklin Northeast Supervisory Union The Bakersfield Elementary Middle School caters for about 155 children school classes from kindergarten to eighth grade.
The HF Brigham Library was founded in 1907 and was housed in various residential buildings until 1951. In 1951 the town received a donation from Mary Brigham and the HF Brigham Memorial library was built in memory of her brother.
