Enosburgh (ˈiːnəsbɜrɡ) is a town in Franklin County of the state of Vermont in the United States with 2,781 inhabitants.

Geographical location

Enosburgh lies on the middle reaches of the Missisquoi River , which flows into Lake Champlain about 30 km further west . In the eastern part of Franklin County. The Missisquoi River flows through the northern part of the town in a westerly direction. It has many small streams as tributaries. In the center there are some smaller lakes, such as Adams Pond . The surface of the town is slightly hilly, the highest point is Leach Hill .

Dr. BJ Kendall Company

The grant for Enosburgh was proclaimed on March 12, 1780 and awarded on May 15, 1780 to General Roger Enos and others. The place was founded in 1780 along with five other places in the area ( Berkshire , Richford , Montgomery, Wyllis - today: Jay - and Westfield ) to help raise the costs of the Vermont armed forces. Enosburgh was named after the recipient of the grant, General Roger Enos, who retired here into private life around 1775. Enos was the father-in-law of Ira Allen . Settlement began in 1797, with Amos Fasett and Stephan House among the first settlers. The town's constituent assembly took place in 1798.

When Dr. BJ Kendall established his equine clinic in Enosburgh for the healing of horses suffering from spar , the town flourished.

Religions

Four different faith communities are located in the city: the Baptists , the Episcopal Church and the Roman Catholic Church each have one congregation, the Methodists with two (one each in Enosburgh Falls and West Enosburgh).

Through the north of the town, following the course of the Missisqoui River, Vermont Route 105 runs from Richford to Sheldon in a west-east direction . The Vermont Route 108 runs north to south, from Berkshire in the north to Bakersfield in the south. They cross in Enosburgh Falls . There is no Amtrak station in Enosburgh. The next is in St. Albans.

Public facilities

Besides the usual municipal facilities and a public library, Enosburgh has no public facilities. The closest hospital is Northwestern Medical Center in Saint Albans .

education

Enosburgh is part of the Franklin Northeast Supervisory Union with Bakersfield, Berkshire, Montgomery and Richford . The Enosburg Falls Elementary School offers classes from preschool to fifth grade. The Enosburg Falls Middle School offers the secondary classes up to the eighth grade and the Enosburg Falls High School is on site as a secondary school.

Larger colleges can be found in Colchester and Winooski ; the closest university location is Burlington .

The Enosburgh Public Library is on Main Street. The library building was built in 1983. The land on which the building was built was donated to the town.
