Fairfax is a town in Franklin County , Vermont , United States with 4,285 residents according to the 2010 census.
geography
Geographical location
Fairfax is located in the western foothills of the Green Mountains , about 20 kilometers east of Lake Champlain and about 30 kilometers south of the border with Canada . It is located in the south of Franklin County, on the border with Chittenden County. The Lamoille River flows west along the southern border of the town. Many small streams flow through the town. In the north is the largest lake in the town, the Saint Albans Reservoir . Another lake is Silver Lake on the western border. The area of the town is hilly, the highest point being the 404 m high Buck Mountain .

history
The place was released for settlement on August 18, 1763 in the course of British colonization by Benning Wentworth as part of the New Hampshire Grants and probably named after Baron Thomas Fairfax (1693–1781), a companion of George Washington . The first settler was Broadstreet Spafford with his two sons Nathan and Asa in 1783. The town's constituent assembly took place on March 22, 1787.
Fairfax residents make their living primarily from agriculture and forestry; there are no noteworthy industrial companies. Tourism is also only sparsely represented and is primarily limited to the rental of log houses in the surrounding forest areas.

There are three denominational parishes in the village: one Roman Catholic and two Methodist churches .

Economy and Infrastructure
traffic
Interstate 89 grazes the town to the northwest . From the south-east of Cambridge, first in a westerly direction, following the course of the Lamoille River, then from the center of Fairfax in a northerly direction to St. Albans, Vermont Route 104 runs . South of the center, Vermont Route 128 branches off to Westford, and Vermont Route 104 A branches off to the west . It continues to follow the course of the Lamoille River. There is no Amtrak station in Fairfax. The next is in St. Albans.
Public facilities
The Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans is the closest hospital for residents of the Town.
education
Fairfax is part of the Franklin West Supervisory Union along with Fletcher and Georgia. The Bellows Free Academy offers around 970 students classes from preschool through twelfth grade.
The Fairfax Community Library is housed in the Bellows Free Academy.
