Fletcher is a town in Franklin County , Vermont , United States with 1,277 inhabitants (2010 census).
geography
Geographical location
Fletcher is located in the middle of the Green Mountains , about 27 km east of Lake Champlain and 35 km south of the Canadian border, in the south of Franklin County. The largest lake in the town is Metcalf Pond in the north. The Lamoille River flows along the southern border in a westerly direction, and its tributaries run through the town to the south. The area of the town is hilly, the highest point being the 598 m high Gilson Mountain .

There are two geological features in Fletcher. The West Fletcher Esker is a 400 acre (162 hectare) glacial feature of national importance. It extends along a tributary of the Wilkins Brooks.
The second is a natural cave near Metcalf Pond. The hill is surrounded by woodland and was known as a hideout in the historical past.

history
The Grant for Fletcher was proclaimed on November 7, 1780 by the Vermont Republic and the Governor Thomas Chittenden and awarded on August 20, 1781 to Nathaniel Brush, David Avery, Rufus Montague and others. Except for Montague, none of the grant recipients has settled in the town. The town was named after General Samuel Fletcher . The grant covered an area of 24,040 acres (9,729 hectares ). The first part of the area was measured in 1786, the second part in 1789. The first settler with family was John Fullington in 1788.
The place is purely agricultural; there are no local industrial companies. Tourism is also largely unknown in Fletcher.

The Baptist Church was founded in Fletcher in 1817. In 1826 the Congregational Church was founded . The Methodist Church finally followed in 1850.

Economy and Infrastructure
traffic
Vermont Route 104 brushes the town to the south . It runs in a west-east direction, from Fairfax in the west to Cambridge in the east. It continues to follow the course of the Lamoille River. The Vermont Route 108 runs north to south through the eastern part of the Town of Bakersfield in the north to Cambridge in the south. There is no Amtrak station in Fletcher. The next is in St. Albans.
Public facilities
The Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans is the closest hospital for residents of the Town.
education
Fletcher is part of the Franklin West Supervisory Union with Fairfax and Georgia . The Fletcher Elementary School is the elementary school on site and offers classes from pre-kindergarten to sixth grade.
There is no public library in Fletcher.
