geography

The place is located on the left bank of the Dunajec River under the Gorcen .

history

The place was founded around the middle of the 14th century or in the 15th century by the Deutsche Ostsiedlung , the name being derived from the German Schlehmberg . It was first mentioned in 1540. With Harklowa and Knurów he had a common owner, first the Stadnicki family, Lubomirski (17th century), from the 18th century Tarnowski.

During the first partition of Poland in 1772 the village became part of the new Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria of the Habsburg Empire (from 1804).

In 1918, after the end of the First World War and the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy, Szlembark came to Poland. This was only interrupted by the occupation of Poland by the Wehrmacht in World War II .

From 1926 the poor village was often visited by Tadeusz Kulisiewicz . He made the village famous.

From 1975 to 1998 Szlembark was part of the Nowy Sącz Voivodeship .
