Tabaluga - The film is a 3D animated film based on the television series of the same name , which opened in German cinemas on December 6, 2018. The idea for the film came from musician Peter Maffay and producer Helge Sasse . The film tells the story of the dragon Tabaluga, who is raised by Bully and Kolk and is supposed to go in search of the fire.

The dragon Tabaluga lives in grassland with his best friend, the ladybird Bully, and his foster father, the raven Kolk. He has a problem: he cannot fly properly, he cannot spit fire and will never be a real kite, which is why the other grasslanders do not take him very seriously. One day he and Bell come across writing on a menhir that contains the words Tabaluga, Feuer and Eisland. Inspired by this, the friends set out into the ice world to look for its fire, which is actually forbidden as all ice lands are dangerous. First, however, they meet the beautiful ice princess Lilli and Tabaluga is magically drawn to her. You also get to know the polar bear Limbo and notice that the rumors that exist about each other are not true. Lilli wants to introduce him to Arktos, the ruler of Eisland, because she thinks he can help Tabaluga. In fact, Arktos, a snowman, is delighted to meet the last dragon and invites him to his palace to give him his fire. However, Arktos alone leads him to a crevice in which Tabaluga sees all the missing dragons lying frozen. Tabaluga realizes that Arktos killed his parents and is now planning to do the same with him in order to eliminate the last one who could endanger him. Fortunately, Lilli, who was created by Arktos solely for the purpose of luring Tabaluga and bringing it under his control, succeeds together with Bully, while Limbo distracts Arktos, to get to the already frozen Tabaluga and to thaw it again through true feelings. In the face of immense danger and through Lilli's trust in his strength, his wings grow for the first time, so that he can fly properly and save them to grassland, where Arktos tries to follow them, but begins to melt in the sun and has to retreat for the time being.

In Grassland, the three friends manage to show that the Icelanders are friendly creatures too, when Limbo appears and announces that Arktos is claiming that Tabaluga kidnapped Lilli to lead his people to war against Grassland. Lilli wants to return to educate the people of Iceland about Arkto's true character, who lied to them all about Grassland to prevent said war. However, Tabaluga does not want to let her go alone; In addition, some Grünlanders reproach him for putting all of them in danger with his search for the fire. Kolk gives Tabaluga the hint that the turtle Nessaja can perhaps tell him how to find his fire, which could save it from Arktos, which he has never said before, because you can only visit Nessaja once in a lifetime. When Tabaluga wants to leave, Lilli does not want to follow him and is deliberately snippy and condescending so that in the meantime she can only return to Eisland with Limbo, which Tabaluga would never allow. Arktos' army is already busy expanding the borders of Iceland, where Lilli is promptly discovered and captured. Arktos fixes them in his palace to use them as a decoy for Tabaluga. In the meantime he has returned from the swamps of Nessajas disappointed, because he does not understand her enigmatic way of speaking, that his fire is in him, when Bully, who overheard Lilli and Limbo, explains to him what she was aiming for. After Tabaluga says goodbye to Kolk, he rushes to Eisland, where he finds Lilli but falls into Arkto's trap. Feeling at the goal, Arktos wants to destroy Lilli first, whereby Tabaluga manages to create flames in the face of the threat to his girlfriend and to defend his friends. However, due to the battle of the elements, the palace collapses. The whole of Eisland comes together and witnesses how Arktos shows his true character and wants to kill Tabaluga, who thinks Lilli is dug under the rubble and is clearly weakened as a result. Then Lilli and Limbo appear and tear his hat off Arktos' head, with which he loses his sight. Tabaluga draws new strength and melts Arktos so small that it is harmless. Having all his people against him, he has to admit defeat, while grasslanders and icelanders visit each other in their now undivided realms and get along wonderfully.

In mid-May 2019, at the Cannes International Film Festival, it was announced that Viva Pictures Distribution had secured the distribution rights for the USA and Canada and Yellow Mountain Studios the rights for China. A cinema release is planned for the same time in late 2019.
