Tadeusz Kondrusiewicz ( Belarusian Тадэвуш Кандрусевіч , Tadewusch Kandrusjewitsch ) (born January 3, 1946 in Adelsk near Hrodna , Belarusian SSR ) is Roman Catholic Archbishop of Minsk-Mahiljou .

Life

Kondrusiewicz attended the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics of the Pedagogical Institute in Hrodna, but left it because he was reproached for his regular church visits. In 1970 he graduated with distinction in mechanical engineering from the Leningrad Polytechnic Institute . From 1970 to 1976 Kondrusiewicz worked as an engineer in a grinding machine factory in Vilnius . Together with colleagues, he invented a high-speed special grinding machine for the Volga automobile plant .

After studying Catholic theology and philosophy in Kaunas , Kondrusiewicz was ordained a priest there on May 31, 1981 . From 1981 to 1986 he was vicar in the Church of St. Theresa and in the Chapel of Our Lady of Mercy in Vilnius . In 1985 he received his licentiate in theology. From 1986 to 1987 he was vicar of Our Lady Congregation in Druskininkai . In 1987 he returned to Vilnius and was Vicar of the Congregation of the Holy Spirit there until February 1988. On February 13th, 1988 he became pastor of the parishes of Our Lady of the Angels and St. Francis Xavier in Hrodna . In the same year he received a doctorate in theology.

On May 10, 1989 appointed him Pope John Paul II. To the titular of Hippo Diarrhytus and Apostolic Administrator of the Archdiocese of Minsk. He was ordained bishop by Pope John Paul II on October 20 of the same year in St. Peter's Basilica ; Co-consecrators were Archbishop Edward Idris Cassidy and the Apostolic Nuncio in Poland , Francesco Colasuonno . With the establishment of the Apostolic Administration for European Russia on April 13, 1991, Kondrusiewicz was appointed its Apostolic Administrator based in Moscow . At that time he was in a Moscow hospital for treatment, so the official inauguration in the Church of St. Louis did not take place until May 28, 1991.

On February 11, 2002, the Apostolic Administration was elevated to the Archdiocese of Mother of God of Moscow and Tadeusz Kondrusiewicz was appointed its first Archbishop and Metropolitan . On September 21, 2007, Pope Benedict XVI appointed him . to the Archbishop of Minsk-Mahiljou. The ceremonial inauguration ( enthronement ) took place on November 21 of the same year in Minsk .

In June 2015 he was elected chairman of the Belarusian Bishops' Conference.
