The Tambo de Mora district is located in the Chincha province of the Ica region in southwest Peru . The district founded on February 5, 1875 has an area of ​​11.3 km². At the 2017 census, 5,434 people lived in the district. In 1993 the population was 4044, in 2007 it was 4725. The district administration is located in the 15  m high small town of Tambo de Mora with 5112 inhabitants (as of 2017). Tambo de Mora is located on the north bank of the Río Chico, northern estuary of the Río San Juan , about one kilometer from the Pacific coast. The Panamericana runs past the city. The provincial capital Chincha Alta is just 7 km northeast. The archaeological site of Huaca La Centinela is located north of the city of Tambo de Mora in the far east of the district.

Geographical location

The Tambo de Mora district extends along the coast in the west of the Chincha province. The district has an approximately 9.3 km long coastline and extends almost 2 kilometers inland. The Río Chico crosses the district. Not far from the eastern district border, the national road 1S (Panamericana) runs in a north-south direction.

The Tambo de Mora district borders on the Grocio Prado district in the north, the Sunampe district in the northeast, and the Chincha Baja district in the southeast and south .
