occupation

The robust Roswita is a television film from the crime series Tatort . The paper produced by the MDR was on 26 August 2018 First aired. In this 1064th Tatort episode, the Weimar Commissioners Lessing and Dorn investigate their seventh case.

action

An apparently insignificant traffic accident leads the inspectors Dorn and Lessing to the traditional dumpling manufacture Hassenzahl. The driver of the company car has evidently escaped in an accident . In order to clarify his identity, Dorn and Lessing want to speak to the managing director, who, however, cannot be found. The trail of blood from his office to a shock freezer doesn't bode well. The end product of this machine is similar to the material found in the accident truck. A corresponding DNA test leaves no doubt about the death of Christoph Hassenzahl. This was the focus of police investigations seven years ago when he was briefly suspected of murdering his wife Roswita, who had disappeared without a trace. Hardly has his death become known to the public when she suddenly reappears, physically unharmed, still slightly confused. Her memory is sketchy: she thinks she fell on her head after an argument in Hainich seven years ago ; There she was found by Roland Schnecke, an unknown and lovable man, who has lived with him ever since and runs the toilet at the petrol station in Stadtroda with him . After the radio report in the morning, her memory returned in a flash.

The search for a motive for murder and possible enemies of Hassenzahl first leads the investigators to his main supplier, the potato farmer Thomas Halupczok. Both had known each other since school but recently got involved in disputes that ended in court. Halupczok lost and was driven to the brink of ruin. Another suspect is Marion Kretschmar, the purchasing manager of a supermarket chain and the main buyer of Hassenzahl's dumplings. She recently canceled her contract with him because of different asking prices. This was preceded by an allegedly positive laboratory test of the dumplings for illegally used GM potatoes .

But also Roswita Hassenzahl, who had “descended from the dumpling queen to the queen of the loos” overnight, appears suspicious to Dorn. In the end, this investigative approach is also effective, but the wife did not lend a hand herself, but rather cleverly arranged the whole thing. She had regained her memory five months earlier, when Schnecke put a “sauce dumpling” in front of her (a dumpling that had the sauce “already in”) - an innovation that she once had in mind. That helped her memory on the jumps: At the time, her husband had made common cause with Halupczok and Kretschmar and cultivated and sold an unapproved potato variety - the robust Roswita . When she confronted the trio, it was hit on the head; Halupczok had struck them down with a fire extinguisher. Believing she was dead, she was only superficially buried in the Hainich; she came to and wandered through the forest ...

After Roswita had regained her memory years later, she thought about revenge and put it into practice with Schnecke's help. First they get Halupczok to kill Christoph Hassenzahl in his resentment; then they stir up such deep distrust between Kretschmar and Halupczok that both of them fix themselves with the poison that was actually intended for the other. Whether the investigators will ultimately manage to prove to Roswita Hassenzahl and Roland Schnecke that they were guilty of inciting murder remains open to the film.

Reviews

Rainer Tittelbach said that this episode could hardly be surpassed in terms of "narrative and aesthetic density [...]". It goes not only as a comedy, but also as a thriller, since the "at first glance completely crazy" plot at the end merges everything logically and reveals "a complex, but thoroughly plausible intriguing barn."

The Augsburger Allgemeine read: “The crime scene from Weimar has long been able to compete with that from Münster. As far as the originality of the criminal cases is concerned, the investigators from Thuringia are even superior to their colleagues from the West. You first have to come up with a story like 'Die robust Roswita' in order to discover the secret of a cheap, genetically contaminated tuber - in the potatoes, out of the potatoes. "

Christian Buß commented on Spiegel Online that the regular authors of the Weimar “Tatort” relied on situation comedy instead of plausibility - the story was “extremely casual”. This episode therefore works best "if, in moments of interrogation or analysis, the conventions of television crime fiction were rhetorically or technically shifted into the grotesque for the blink of an eye".

Anne Burgmer criticized in the Berliner Zeitung : “Nora Tschirner and Christian Ulmen clearly had fun with the absurd case and talked through the story of Murmel Clausen and Andreas Pflüger. Fortunately, the rest of the actors were also convincing. Wonderful nonsense that entertained well. "

Markus Giese from the Münchner Abendzeitung gave a similar assessment : “A search for traces between love, greed and cover-up with the lovable sidekicks Stich (Thorsten Merten) and Lupo (Arndt Schwering-Sohnrey) and a curious ending, at which everything somehow regulates itself. It's fun - if you are ready from the start to forego depth. "

Trivia

The memorable rhyme Thomas Halupczok uses to memorize which plate the poisoned dumpling is on is an homage to the American comedy Der Hofnarr (1955) with Danny Kaye, in which the main character has to memorize which wine cup contains poison. The following rhyme comes into play here:

"The wine with the pill is in the cup with the fan, the cup with the portal has the wine good and pure."
