Schimanski's weapon is a television film from the television crime series Tatort by ARD and ORF . The film was produced by WDR and broadcast for the first time on September 2, 1990. It is the 234th episode in the crime scene series and the 25th with Commissioners Horst Schimanski and Christian Thanner .
action
During an incident in Giovanni Salvatore's restaurant there is an exchange of fire between Schimanski and the Mafia killers Baretti and Hooken, whereby Schimanski's girlfriend Renate gets into his line of fire and dies a little later. The two escape first and Giovanni Salvatore, who was injured, prefers to hide on his small yacht on the Rhine .
Baretti and Hooken are always on his heels, however, and watch as Schimanski helps the landlord to get to the hospital. Before that, however, Giovanni asks his son Mario to bring a suitcase to safety. This is exactly what the two killers are after. They hunt down Mario and his friend Erwin Spilonska. Christian Thanner, who is involved in the search for the two perpetrators, is seriously injured in a dangerous car maneuver. Schimanski, who put down his gun after the death of his girlfriend Renate, is now completely on his own. Schimanski hopes to get more information from Mario's friend Martina and visits her. At this point in time, her brother Erwin arrives with his boat and the coveted suitcase. When Schimanski and Martina get on the boat, Erwin runs away and hides the suitcase in the bushes. In fact, Baretti and Hooken arrive shortly afterwards and demand that the suitcase be returned. In order to emphasize their demand, they lock Schimanski and Martina in the boat's machine house and let the boat sink. Erwin attacks the killers by throwing stones, injuring Baretti in the head, so that they retreat for the time being, and can free Schimanski and Martina from the sinking boat at the last minute. Erwin, who is mentally retarded, has sworn to Mario that he will not reveal anything about the whereabouts of the suitcase.
A little later, Mario's body is found and his father Giovanni breaks his silence: he says that there are protection money in the suitcase that he wanted to keep. Baretti and Hooken, however, do not give up and kidnap Erwin and lock him in an abandoned ruin and set up a trap with an immersion heater in a bucket of gasoline. Schimanski let them know that if he wanted to save Erwin, the condition was: suitcase against Erwin's life. Schimanski, however, succeeds in exchanging himself as a hostage for Erwin. He asks Erwin to see Thanner in the hospital. Thanner then already knew what to do so that he could be freed. But Thanner has been given a sleeping pill , so Erwin decides to take his suitcase and improvise. He returns to the ruins, places the suitcase in front of it and asks the two gangsters to release Schimanski, which the gangsters do. When Hooken takes the suitcase, the gasoline trap explodes: the suitcase opens and the money flies around. Baretti is killed and Hooken can be arrested.
In the hospital, Giovanni Salvatore goes to himself and decides to be available to the police and to bear the consequences for his actions.

Reviews
TV Spielfilm judges "A strong piece about pain and anger."
prisma explains : “Girlfriend dead, Thanner seriously injured, son of the innkeeper friend murdered and also involved in an argument with the Mafia - in this episode of the Duisburg“ Tatort ”, Schimanski, alias Götz George, gets stumpy. After “Katja's Silence” this was the second “Tatort” that Hans Noever staged with the extremely popular Duisburg duo. After the script, which Noever wrote with Uwe Erichsen (“The Cat”, “Tatort - Nice Weekend”) and Wolfgang Hesse, a gripping and action-packed crime thriller emerged, in which Schimanski, irritated to the bone, can no longer be stopped. Nina Petri and Klaus J. Behrendt can be admired here in early roles, the character actor Remo Remotti (“Falcone - In the crosshairs of the Mafia”) from Rome […] skillfully plays the innkeeper Giovanni. “
