The Tauca district is located in the Pallasca Province in the Ancash region in western Peru . The district was founded on January 2, 1857. It has an area of ​​199 km². The 2017 census counted 2860 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 3398, in 2007 it was 3238. The district administration is located in the 3367  m high village of Tauca with 1376 inhabitants (as of 2017). Tauca is 9 km south-southwest of the provincial capital Cabana . In addition to the main town, there is the larger town of Hualalay with 202 inhabitants.

Geographical location

The Tauca district is located in the south-west of the Pallasca province. The Río Tablachaca flows south along the western district boundary .

The Tauca district borders in the west with the district Santiago de Chuco ( province Santiago de Chuco ), in the north with the district Bolognesi , in the northeast with the district Cabana , in the southeast with the district Corongo ( province Corongo ) and in the south with the districts Llapo and Santa Rosa .
