Tavon Wesley Austin (born March 15, 1990 in Baltimore , Maryland ) is an American American football player on the position of wide receiver and is also used as a returner in the special teams . He plays for the San Francisco 49ers in the National Football League (NFL).
college
Austin played from 2009 to 2012 on the position of wide receiver at West Virginia University and was also used there in the special teams . He was elected to the All-American team in 2011 by the sports broadcaster CBS Sports .
Austin caught a total of 288 passes for 3,413 yards and 29 touchdowns . Due to his running strength, he also came to 110 runs for 1033 yards and 6 touchdowns. As a returner, he caught a total of 34 punts and 97 kicks for a total of 2840 yards and 5 touchdowns.
NFL
Austin was selected in the 2013 NFL Draft in 8th place in the 1st round by the St. Louis Rams .
St. Louis / Los Angeles Rams
On June 13, 2013, he signed a four-year contract worth $ 12.75 million . Even in his rookie season, Austin was used in many ways in running and passing plays and also played as a returner. In the 2015 season he had his best NFL season to date and set his personal NFL season record with 473 caught yards and 5 caught touchdowns as a wide receiver.
Austin moved in 2016 with the Rams franchise to Los Angeles to and signed on 27. August 2016 a new four-year contract with an extension to 42 million dollars.
Dallas Cowboys
As part of the 2018 NFL Draft , Austin was swapped by the Rams for the Dallas Cowboys . The Rams received a round 6 draft pick from the Cowboys for Austin .
San Francisco 49ers
Austin signed a one-year contract with the San Francisco 49ers in August 2020 .
