The Rhaetian Railway (RhB) received three machines with the numbers Te 2/2 71 to 73 in 1946, which were built by the Swiss Locomotive and Engineering Factory (SLM) in Winterthur . A tractor of the same type was delivered for the Furka-Oberalp-Bahn , which is still operational in 2018 under the road number 4926 and is part of the MGBahn-Historic association.

The shunting tractors had an output of 230 kW (310 hp) and a top speed of 30 km / h with an unladen weight of 13 t. Around 2000, No. 71 was stationed in Filisur , No. 72 in Davos- Platz and No. 73 in Grüsch . They were canceled between 2006 and 2008.

For track construction it was necessary to have strong vehicles that were reliable even in rough conditions. In addition, there was the requirement that the speed of the vehicles in the lowest speed range for ballast trains had to be controlled very precisely. The previous vehicles with contactor control did not meet this requirement. The solution to the problem offered itself with the thyristor technology.

The RhB therefore looked for a manufacturer who already had experience in building such locomotives and, in Siemens, found a manufacturer who, together with Schalker Eisenhütte , already had such experience in building mining locomotives .

In 1969, two tractors were created, which, however, differed significantly from the first series. The massive construction gave the two locomotives with the numbers Te 2/2 74 and 75 the name of tank locomotives . The two tractors were the first RhB vehicles with thyristor control . Their output was also 230 kW, the top speed 50 km / h and the curb weight 23 t. Both machines were scrapped in October 2000 (75) and February 2001 (74).
