The Tenom District is an administrative district in the Malaysian state of Sabah . The administrative seat is the city of Tenom . The district is part of the Interior Division area which includes the districts of Beaufort , Keningau , Kuala Penyu , Nabawan , Sipitang , Tambunan and Tenom. In the south the district borders on Kalimantan Indonesia .
Demographics
The population is made up of the ethnic groups of the Murut (52%), the Han Chinese (8%), the Malay (4%) and the Kadazan - Dusun (12%) as well as a small proportion of other ethnic groups such as Indonesians and Filipinos . The majority of the almost 5,000 Chinese, descendants of immigrants from Longchuan in Guangdong , come from the Hakka ethnic group .
The district's population according to the 2010 census is 55,553.
history
The name "Tenom" as an independent district designation only appeared between 1904 and 1906, after the completion of the railway line from Beaufort to Melapap.
The area of what is now the Tenom District has been officially under British administration since 1900. The first administrator was MCM Weedon.
