Tetraiodsilane (also silicon tetraiodide ) is the periodic derivative of monosilane . It is an inorganic chemical compound of silicon from the group of iodides and silicon tetrahalides .

Tetraiodosilane can be obtained by reacting silicon with iodine or hydrogen iodide .

Silicon tetraiodide is a very moisture- and light-sensitive, colorless crystal mass that melts into a lemon-yellow liquid. When heated (especially in a vacuum) it decomposes easily into the elements. After a while the compound turns reddish due to the deposition of iodine. With water it decomposes into hydrogen iodide and silica . It has a cubic crystal structure with the space group Pa 3 (space group no. 205) . Template: room group / 205
