The Thuringian Muschwitz nature reserve is located in the area of ​​the market town of Bad Steben in the district of Hof and the Langenbacher Forest , a community-free area west of Bad Steben in the Upper Franconian district of Kronach in Bavaria .

The 22.26 ha large area with the no. NSG 00427.01, which in 1992 under natural protection was provided, extends to the northwest, north and northeast of Carl Green , a district of Bad Steben, along to the border with Thuringia flowing Thuringian Muschwitz , a left tributary of the Selbitz .

The protected status is done to preserve the natural brook with adjacent Hochstauden- and Altgrasfluren and meadows and lowland forest areas . The area is habitat, breeding and feeding space for highly endangered bird species.
