The Infiltrator is a British crime film of director Brad Furman from the year 2016 . It is based on the book The Infiltrator: My Secret Life Inside the Dirty Banks Behind Pablo Escobar's Medellin Cartel by Robert Mazur , an agent for Florida Customs . The film was in the July 6, 2016 Tampa in the US state premiered Florida, on September 29, 2016, the film was released in the German cinemas.

In 1986, investigator Robert Mazur of the Florida Customs Department suggested that undercover investigations should be used to track the financial flows of drug-dealing organizations instead of the drugs themselves. In the role of businessman Bob Musella he succeeds in establishing contact with the financial officers of the Medellín cartel around Pablo Escobar . He can convince them that he can launder any amount of their dirty money from the drug deals. In addition to the cartel links, more and more bankers from reputable credit institutions are the focus of Mazur's investigations. During a staged wedding of Musella and his alleged fiancée, a colleague who also works undercover, numerous people involved in the drug business or money laundering are finally arrested. The end credits clarify the further fate of the protagonists and the outcome of some subsequent processes.
