biography
In the early 1980s, singers and dancers Jeff Aaron Brown, Hammish Seelochan, John Andrew Banfield, David Milliner and Michael Milliner formed the dance band Finesse, which quickly became one of the most sought-after dance companies in the UK. At first, singing only played a subordinate role. Various appearances in video clips by well-known artists and in the film Absolute Beginners - Junge Helden (1986) made the group more popular.
In 1988 the band decided to sing professionally in addition to dancing and henceforth called themselves The Pasadeners. In the same year they signed a contract with CBS and released the single Tribute (Right On) , which pays homage to various musicians who were formative for rock 'n' roll and soul. Little Richard , Elvis Presley , Sam Cooke , Jackie Wilson , James Brown , Marvin Gaye , Stevie Wonder , Smokey Robinson , The Supremes , Jimi Hendrix and The Jackson Five , but also Motown - and Phillysound are mentioned in the text . In May the song climbed into the English charts and reached number five, in the following September it climbed to number 26 in Germany and in February 1989 was number 52 on the Billboard Hot 100, the only single chart success of the band in the United States .
In September 1988, the follow-up single Riding on a Train was released in England and placed 13th on the charts there. At the end of the year, the song became the group's biggest hit in Germany at number 24. The debut album To Whom It May Concern reached number three in England and number 19 in Germany at the end of the year. The release Enchanted Lady did not go beyond number 31 in the UK charts in November.
1990 The Pasadenas could not build on previous successes with the singles Love Thing and Reeling . Both songs only reached lower chart ranks for a short time. The accompanying album Elevate was released in 1991 and missed the charts.
With the single I'm Doing Fine Now , the band had their biggest hit in the UK in February 1992 at number 4. A month later, the album Yours Sincerely came 6th on the UK charts. The other releases Make It with You , I Believe in Miracles and Moving in the Right Direction only reached lower places in the course of the year. Let's Stay Together missed the top 20 on the UK charts in November 1992. The last hit parade was the single Round & Round , which was 96th for just one week in 1995.
