Theo M. Landmann (born February 10, 1903 in Danzig ; † May 29, 1978 in Osnabrück ) was a German glass painter .

Life

Theo M. Landmann studied painting from 1921 to 1922 at the Technical University of Danzig under Fritz Pfuhle . In addition, he was a guest student in the architecture and art history departments for four semesters . In 1923 he attended the State Art School in Berlin and was a student of Georg Tappert and Philipp Franck . Due to the economic situation after the end of inflation , he was unable to continue his studies. After an internship in the United South German Workshops for Glass Painting and Mosaic in Solln near Munich, he applied to the G. Deppen and Sons glass painting company in Osnabrück in 1925, where he worked as a glass painter until 1927. From 1928 to 1929 he was a master student with Jan Thorn Prikker at the Cologne factory schools and from 1929 worked as a freelance artist in Osnabrück. In 1939 he married the ceramist Ruth Landmann geb. Kerckhoff. Interrupted by the war, he continued his independent activity after 1945 and from 1967 also worked as an art teacher. He died in 1978 at the age of 75. His grave is on the Heger cemetery in Osnabrück.

In 1925, at the age of 22, Theo M. Landmann designed five figurative lead glass windows for the Catholic Church of St. Antonius in the Baltic Sea resort of Brösen near Gdansk. Further orders in the sacred area followed throughout Germany. He worked with the architects Dominikus Böhm and Theo Burlage , among others .

His artistic field of activity in the 1920s and 1930s also included designs for figural tapestries for the decoration of choir rooms and numerous frescoes , some of which he carried out himself. Much of this work was destroyed in World War II.

After 1945, the orders were increasingly concentrated in northern Germany. Theo M. Landmann designed windows for churches, public buildings and private clients. He created figurative windows as well as symbol and ornament windows and used the techniques of lead glazing , etched glass and concrete glass .
