Thomas Tauporn

Thomas Tauporn (born March 30, 1991 in Schechingen ) is a German sport and competition climber . In 2006 he became German youth champion, in 2010 German runner-up and in 2011 runner-up world champion in the overall ranking at the climbing world championships in Arco . In 2016 he became German runner-up in bouldering.

Career

Thomas Tauporn is nicknamed "Shorty". He climbs for the Schwäbisch Gmünd section of the German Alpine Club (DAV). He is one of the versatile competitive climbers who are successful in all three disciplines ( bouldering , lead and speed ).

Thomas Tauporn started climbing in 1999. From 2004 to 2006 Tauporn climbed in the B-youth and in 2004 was the first German youth champion in Leipzig . The following year he finished eighth at the Youth World Cup in Beijing and was able to defend his national title. In 2007 Thomas competed for the first time in the men's as well as the A-youth. There he took second place in the overall ranking of the German Sport Climbing Cup and was also German Youth A Champion. In the same year he came third at the Junior World Climbing Championships in Ibarra , Ecuador. In the men's category, he has been among the world's best since 2009 with a 4th and two 8th places in World Cups, and in the same year he was invited to the prestigious Rockmaster in Arco . In 2010 the title at the Youth World Cup in Edinburgh followed . A year later he became vice world champion in overall (combination competition from all three disciplines) and 6th in the bouldering competition at the climbing world championships in Arco. Following the World Championships, he was second in the lead at Rockmaster. In 2016 he became German runner-up in bouldering.
