Tilman Oberbeck

Tilman Oberbeck (* 1992 in Bruchsal ) is a German jazz musician ( double bass ).

Live and act

After graduating from high school in 2011, Oberbeck studied at the Helmholtz-Gymnasium Karlsruhe in Hamburg with Lucas Lindholm ; In 2014 he spent a semester abroad in Basel with Larry Grenadier and Bänz Oester . Between 2012 and 2014 he was the bass player of the Brandenburg State Youth Jazz Orchestra and from 2014 to 2016 in the Federal Jazz Orchestra .

During his master's degree, he built the trio Meinberg / Meyer / Oberbeck with the pianist Béla Meinberg and the drummer Jan-Phillip Meyer, which also traveled with Chris Cheek and presented a joint album in 2018. He belongs to the Jan Prax Quartet, with whom he released two albums. Since 2017 Oberbeck toured internationally with Jorge Rossy's REBOP . He is part of the Hamburg jazz scene and played with Anna-Lena Schnabel , Gabriel Coburger , Menzel Mutzke , Till Brönner , William Evans , Rotem Sivan, Samantha Wright and Jimmy Wormworth . In 2018 he performed at the Generations -Festival in Frauenfeld with Maria Schneider and Donny McCaslin .

Prizes and awards

In 2012, Oberbeck won the Future Sounds competition with the Jan Prax Quartet . In the same year he received first prize with the ensemble Night Soul at First Flush , a prize for the most innovative concert concept. In 2014 he was the first prize winner (with the Prax quartet) at the Sparda Jazz Award and the Czech Jazz Contest in Prague. In 2015 he won second place at the Munich Jazz Prize with the Andreas Feith Quartet .
