Ramholt comes from the offspring of the GCK Lions , where he went through all junior levels. For the 2001/02 season he then moved to the partner team ZSC Lions , where he was able to play his first games in the top Swiss division. However, in the first two years he also played in the National League B at his home club .
After the age of 18 at the NHL Entry Draft in 2003 in the second round by the Calgary Flames drafted had been decided Ramholt to take the step overseas, and joined the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles from the Canadian junior league LHJMQ on. In the following season he scored nine goals and 27 assists in 51 regular season games, but at the end of the season he decided to return to Switzerland, where he was active for one year each for the ZSC Lions and the Kloten Flyers .
In 2006 he decided to make a second attempt in North America. During the following two seasons, Ramholt, who was transferred from the Calgary Flames to the Philadelphia Flyers and later to the organization of the Nashville Predators within a few months in the calendar year 2008, played a total of 210 games in the American Hockey League for four different teams , in which he posted a total of eight goals and 38 assists. Although he was denied the breakthrough in the National Hockey League , he was allowed to complete an NHL game for the Calgary Flames.
He returned to Switzerland in the summer of 2009 and has since played for HC Davos , with whom he became Swiss champion in the 2010/11 season. His good performance since returning from North America meant that he was appointed to the Swiss national team in November 2010 by national coach Sean Simpson .
For the 2013/14 season, Ramholt was signed by EV Zug , where he played until 2016. In December 2015 he signed a three-year contract with EHC Kloten , which was valid from the 2016/17 season.
