Ulf Tobias "Toby" Enström (born November 5, 1984 in Nordingrå ) is a Swedish ice hockey player who has been under contract with MODO Hockey in HockeyAllsvenskan since August 2018 . From 2007 to 2018 was defender for the franchise of the Atlanta Thrashers and the Winnipeg Jets in the National Hockey League active.

Career

Enström first went through the junior departments of the Swedish club MODO Hockey until 2002 . Despite average statistics, the then 18-year-old received his first professional contract with MoDo Hockey for the 2002/03 season and thus made his first 42 appearances in the Elitserien . At the end of the year he was voted best Årets nykomling . The following summer he was then selected in the eighth round of the NHL Entry Draft in 239th place by the Atlanta Thrashers . However, the defender stayed with his home club for another four seasons and developed into a solid defender with strengths both on the defensive and on the offensive. In his last season he played a major role in MoDo’s first championship win since 1979. With his eleven goal preparations, he was the most successful assists in the playoffs. His achievements also drew the attention of the management of the Atlanta Thrashers, who offered him a contract in May 2007.

After the Swede had earned a place in the squad of the NHL team through the Thrashers' pre-season training camp, he started his first in North America in the 2007/08 season . Enström was voted rookie of the month in November , something no defender had achieved for two years.

After his NHL debut on October 5, 2007, Enström was up to January 22, 2011 in 296 NHL games in a row for the Thrashers on the ice, with which the defender set a new franchise record . After the 2017/18 season, Enström did not get a new contract in Winnipeg, so he returned to his Swedish homeland or to his training club MODO Hockey in August 2018.

International

Enström has represented his home country Sweden at three Junior World Championships in the U18 and U20 areas between 2002 and 2004 , the Senior World Championships in 2007 and 2009 and the 2010 Winter Olympics . At the 2009 World Cup he won the bronze medal with Sweden.
