Tobias Haaks

Tobias Haaks (* 1979 in Augsburg ) is a German opera, operetta, lied and oratorio singer ( tenor ).

Career

His musical training began at the age of eight with the Augsburger Domsingknaben , where his musical talent was discovered and promoted. His first appearances on the opera stage took place at the age of eleven as the first boy in Mozart's Magic Flute at the State Theater on Gärtnerplatz and at the Augsburg Theater .

After graduating from high school near St. Stephan in Augsburg, he began studying singing at the Nuremberg-Augsburg University of Music with Fenna Kuegel-Seifried.

In the 2004/05 winter semester, Tobias Haaks moved to the Munich University of Music and Drama , where he was accepted into the August Everding Bavarian Theater Academy . After graduating, he switched to tenor. Up to this point he was a baritone . He completed his studies with a master class diploma in opera and concert singing. In addition, he earned a singing teacher diploma at the Nuremberg-Augsburg University of Music. He completed his training in master classes with Brigitte Fassbaender , Rudolf Piernay , Kurt Widmer and András Schiff .

During his studies he gave guest performances at the Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz as Caramello in Strauss' One Night in Venice and at the Nationaltheater Mannheim as Gastone in Verdi's La traviata .

In 2007 Tobias Haaks sang Max in Weber's Freischütz (which was to become his prime role) for the first time as part of the Rheinsberg Castle Chamber Opera.

Immediately after completing his studies in the summer of 2008, he became a member of the ensemble of the Braunschweig State Theater . He stayed there for five seasons and interpreted parts of the lyrical as well as the heroic discipline there - again including Max, Hans in Smetana's The Bartered Bride , Tamino and the Steuermann in Wagner's The Flying Dutchman , but also operettas like Baldwin in Strauss' Viennese blood or Alfred in the bat .

In the summer of 2011, Haaks made his debut at the Schwerin Castle Festival as Max.

In the seasons from 2013 to 2018 he was the first tenor at the Stadttheater Bremerhaven . There he devoted himself to the development of the youthful hero subject and in turn designed Max, Erik in Wagner's Fliegendem Holländer , the title role in Verdi's Don Carlo , Lenski in Tchaikovsky's Eugen Onegin and Florestan in Beethoven's Fidelio . But also operettas and rarely performed and modern operas found their way into his repertoire, e.g. E.g. Count Tassilo in Kálmán's Countess Mariza , Eisenstein in Strauss' Fledermaus, Anatol in Barber's Vanessa , Bruno in Goldschmidt's The Great Cuckold , Dr. S in Nymans The man who mistook his wife for a hat and the second tenor in Eötvös' The golden dragon.

During this time there were opportunities to perform and so Haaks made his debut at Theater Koblenz in 2016 as Sir Edgar Aubrey in Marschner's Der Vampyr and in winter 2017 at the Musiktheater im Revier in Gelsenkirchen.

At the beginning of the 2018/19 season he joined the ensemble of Theater Koblenz.

In addition to his work on the opera stage, Tobias Haaks also devotes himself to oratorio and lieder singing.

In the oratorio subject he sings a wide variety of repertoire, but his particular focus is on the works of the Romantic period. The works of Mendelssohn , but also works such as Verdi's Requiem , Puccini's Messa di Gloria or Dvořák's Stabat Mater are among others. Songs and cycles by Schubert , Schumann , Strauss , Wolf , Weill and Vaughan-Williams complete his repertoire.
