Tomi Nybäck (born April 3, 1985 in Järvenpää ) is a Finnish chess player . In 2001 he became an international master . He has been a grandmaster since 2003 .
successes
In April 2002 he won a First Saturday GM tournament in Budapest . At the Stork Young Masters in Hengelo in August 2002 he shared first place with Jan Smeets and achieved an Elo performance of 2721. In October 2002 he was third at the U18 European Championship in Peñíscola . In July 2003 he won the Heart of Finland tournament in Jyväskylä . He also achieved third place at the U18 youth world championships in October / November 2003 in Chalkidiki . He won the Finnish individual championship in Mänttä in 2008 with 9 points from 9 games. He has topped the Finnish Elo ranking for several years.
National team
For Finland he played at seven Chess Olympiads ( 2002 , 2004 , 2006 , 2008 , 2010 , 2012 and 2014 ) with an overall result of 38.5 points from 63 games (+26 = 25 −13; 58.3%). He took part in six European team championships (2003, 2005, 2007, 2009, 2011 and 2013) with an overall result of +19 = 22 −6 (63.8%), and he won the European championship in Gothenburg in 2005 for his result of 5, 5 out of 8 on the first board received an individual bronze medal and a silver medal for 6.5 out of 9 on the top board at the EM 2009 in Novi Sad .
Club chess
Nybäck plays in the Finnish 1st division, the SM-Liiga, for Aatos Helsinki . He has also participated in the British 4NCL (for the Slough Sharks ), the Belgian National Interclubs (for the chess friends Wirtzfeld ) and the Icelandic team championship (for Taflfélag Vestmannaeyja ). In Sweden he played for the SK Sollentuna , with whom he won the team championship in 2001/02 and 2002/03 , in France he played for the Club de L'Echiquier Chalonnais .
In Germany he played in the 2003/04 season in the Oberliga Nord for SK Jever . Since 2004 he has been playing in the 1st Bundesliga for Werder Bremen , with whom he was German team champion in the 2004/05 season .
With Werder Bremen he took part in five European club championships from 2005 to 2010 ( European Club Cup ). In 2005 in Saint-Vincent he achieved a bronze medal for his result of 5 out of 6 on the fifth board (Werder Bremen was fifth). In the following year in Fügen he had a result of 6.5 out of 7 on the fifth board (Elo performance 2887) at the club team EM for Bremen and received a gold medal (Bremen was 13th) at the European Club Cup 2011 he took with him Aatos Helsinki .
