Tony Giammalva (born April 21, 1958 in Houston , Texas ) is a retired American tennis player .

Life

Giammalva played for Trinity University . In 1980 he reached his first and only final on the ATP World Tour at the Swedish Open , but lost there to Balázs Taróczy .

He was more successful in the doubles competition, where he won four titles and stood in five other finals. He won the title in Tokyo alongside his brother Sammy . He had his best placement in the world rankings in singles with position 70 in 1981 and in doubles in 1985 with position 32.

His best individual result in a Grand Slam tournament was reaching the third round at the French Open and Wimbledon in 1981. In the doubles competition, he was able to reach the quarter-finals at the Australian Open and the French Open.

His father Sam Giammalva was a member of the US Davis Cup team in the 1950s .
