Torsten Gersdorf

Torsten Gersdorf (born August 19, 1961 in Berlin ) is a Brigadier General of the Army of the German Armed Forces and has been in command of the North Rhine-Westphalia State Command in Düsseldorf since March 20, 2018 .

Military career

Training and first uses

In 1979 Gersdorf joined the Bundeswehr. By 1983, he graduated from officer training the Armored Corps as well as the study of pedagogy at the University of the Federal Armed Forces in Hamburg . From 1983 to 1990 he was employed in the tank troops as platoon leader and company commander in Munster and Lüneburg , and from 1990 to 1992 in the Army Command East in Geltow . Subsequently, Gersdorf took part in general staff training at the command academy of the German Armed Forces in Hamburg from 1992 to 1994 .

Service as a staff officer

The first assignment as a staff officer led Gersdorf from 1994 to 1997 as a task force officer ( G3 ) to the IV Corps in Geltow. From 1997 to 1998 he attended the British General Staff Course at the Joint Services Command and Staff College in Bracknell , United Kingdom . From 1998 to 2001 he was employed as a ministerial advisor in the command staff of the army in Bonn . From 2001 to 2003, Gersdorf was again in leadership responsibility as commander of tank battalion 183 in Boostedt. From 2003 to 2004 he was employed as Head of the Personnel Department (G 1) of the 14th Panzer Grenadier Division in Neubrandenburg . During this period Gersdorf was four months at KFOR in Kosovo in foreign assignment . From 2004 to 2006 he took part in a fellowship program at the School of Advanced Military Studies in Fort Leavenworth , USA . From 2006 to 2009, he was employed as Head of the Deployment and Training Department (G 3) of the 1st Panzer Division in Hanover . During this period there was also an eight-month assignment abroad with ISAF in Afghanistan . From 2009 to 2010 Gersdorf was the head of the Army Department at the command academy of the German Armed Forces in Hamburg. From 2010 to 2012 he was employed as head of the Central Tasks department in the Federal Ministry of Defense in Bonn. From 2012 to 2014 Gersdorf was Head of Central Tasks in the office of the Inspector General of the Bundeswehr , General Volker Wieker , in Berlin.

Service as a general

From 2014 to 2018, Gersdorf was, by appointment as Brigadier General, Commander Enabling Command in the Allied Rapid Reaction Corps (HQ ARRC) in Innsworth, United Kingdom. On March 20, 2018, he succeeded Brigadier General Peter Gorgels as commander of the North Rhine-Westphalia state command.

Private

Gersdorf is married and has two children.
