The Tröndelsee and the surrounding area is a nature reserve in the Schleswig-Holstein city ​​of Kiel .

The approximately 24  hectare nature reserve is registered with the number 71 in the directory of nature reserves of the Ministry of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Areas. It was designated in 1983 (date of the ordinance: September 26, 1983) and was thus the first nature reserve in Kiel. The responsible nature conservation authority is the city of Kiel.

The nature reserve is located in the southeast of the city of Kiel within an allotment garden area in the districts of Ellerbek and Elmschenhagen . It turns out in a valley lying Tröndelsee with its silting areas , Bruchwald zones and adjacent wet grassland on fen soils under protection. The grassland areas were previously drained and peat was removed in places .

The silting areas around the lake are occupied by reed beds and large sedge swamps . To the west of the lake, in particular, there is an alder forest, in whose herb layer reeds , marsh riding grass , marsh fern, marsh blood-eye and marsh violets settle. Small sedge with two-row sedge , yellow sedge, hedgehog sedge and millet sedge settle on the wet meadows . The rare miracle sedge can be found at the transition from the small sedge to the large sedge . On the south bordering the lake at landing areas grassland areas have orchids stocks with broadleaf and flesh-colored orchid developed. You can also find marsh marigold , meadowfoam , flaming buttercup , devil's bite , large rattling pot , true meadowsweet as well as swamp sedge and forest cornice . The meadows in the nature reserve are partially mowed for maintenance and grazed with cattle.

The lake and the reed areas surrounding it are the habitat of various water birds such as water rail , great crested grebes and red-necked grebes, as well as tufted ducks and teal .

Several hiking trails run through the nature reserve , so that the area is also used for local recreation . In several places there are display boards with explanations. The area is looked after by the Independent Schleswig-Holstein Landscape Board of Trustees - Association for Nature Conservation and Landscape Management.
