Transvaal is a district of the city of Wittingen in the district of Gifhorn in Lower Saxony .
geography
The place is south of the center of Wittingen on the county road K 29.
West of the Transvaal is the Gagelstrauch reserve near Vorhop and the Elbe Lateral Canal runs along it .
To the southeast is the former Ehra-Lessien military training area .
history
From 1908 the area of today's Transvaal was cultivated and in 1909 the first settlers settled in the Transvaal, which at that time was initially called the settlement Am Boitzenhagener Weg . It was not until 1924 that the place was officially called the Transvaal, after the Transvaal province in South Africa . Originally, the Transvaal was a residential area of the Vorhop community . On March 1, 1974, the Transvaal was incorporated into the municipality of Knesebeck , and since April 1, 1974, the Transvaal has been part of the city of Wittingen. The bus travel company Bischof was founded in Transvaal in 1979 and has been based in Wesendorf since 1990 .
