history

The place name ending -büttel means “house and yard” or “settlement area” and comes from Low German or North Germanic .

In March 1974, Wonder was constable along with the former municipalities Eutzen , Hagen in Knesebeck and Vorhop in the community Knesebeck incorporated. On April 1, 1974, this enlarged community was dissolved and incorporated into the city of Wittingen.
