The Triumph Thruxton 900 [ ˈθrŭkstɔn ] is a motorcycle from Triumph Motorcycles . The Cafe Racer was produced from 2004 to 2015 - first in Hinckley , England , and from 2011 exclusively in Chonburi, Thailand . The construction of the naked bike is derived from the Triumph Bonneville T100 and named after a race track near the southern English town of Thruxton. The design is reminiscent of the Triumph Thruxton T120R and the café racer culture of the 1960s.

construction

drive

The motorcycle is powered by an upright, air-cooled two - cylinder four-stroke engine . It is a transversely mounted parallel twin with a displacement of 865 cc and a nominal power of 50 kW (68 hp) at 7400 min -1 . The maximum torque is 70 Nm at 5800 min -1 . The cylinders have a bore of 90 mm, the pistons a stroke of 68 mm with a compression ratio of 10.2: 1.

The engine has two intake and two exhaust valves per cylinder, which are controlled by two chain-driven overhead camshafts . The engine vibrations are reduced by two balance shafts . The fuel-air mixture forms a double carburetor with a throttle valve sensor and electrical carburetor preheating. The 2-in-2 exhaust system has a regulated catalytic converter whose emission limit values are below the Euro 3 emissions standard . Since model year 2008 there has been an electronically controlled sequential multi-point intake manifold injection due to stricter emissions standards .

The average fuel consumption is 4.9 liters per 100 km. The fuel tank has a capacity of 16 liters and enables a theoretical range of 285 km. The motorcycle accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h in 5.5 seconds and reaches a top speed of 200 km / h.

Frame and chassis

The chassis geometry of the Thruxton was adopted from the Bonneville. The loop frame is made of tubular steel. The front wheel is guided by a telescopic fork from Kayaba with a 41 mm standpipe diameter and 120 mm travel and is decelerated by a 320 mm brake disc with double piston calipers. The rear wheel is guided by a double arm swing arm made of tubular steel with two adjustable spring struts with a maximum spring travel of 106 mm. Ready to drive, the weight is 230 kilograms, the maximum payload 200 kg.

Reviews

“So what can the exclusive replica of a café racer from the 1960s do? Like! It remains a beautiful, fine motorcycle, the Thruxton. One that you like to look at and move. And that with its charm can also bewitch non-motorcyclists. "

- Thomas Schieder : Motorrad , issue 10/2008

“The model for the machine, which is available from 8990 euros, is the Spartan café racer, with which many illegal races were contested in the sixties. The British bike is not made for that. The Thruxton will be launched as the most powerful model in the Bonneville series with 50 kW / 68 hp, but it cannot keep up with today's super athletes. "

“On well-developed country roads, however, the Thruxton reaches its limits when you just want to overtake a car that is not quite driving in front of you at 100 km / h. Simply twisting the throttle is not enough to accelerate really fast. But you don't want to downshift and torment the twin at high speeds either, because it turns rather rough around the top. "

- auto.de

“The twin hums cautiously when idling, but is quite lively when driving. Classically drawn round instruments, brushed engine covers and the narrow M handlebar with externally mounted mirrors support the aura of the gentleman racer. "
