Previous model Triumph Trophy 1200 (T300E)

The Triumph Trophy SE is a fully faired motorcycle from the English vehicle manufacturer Triumph . The Tourer was presented on June 22, 2012 during the Tridays in Neukirchen am Großvenediger and has been on sale since October 2012 as the successor to the Triumph Trophy 1200 (1991-2003). Like most Triumph models, the motorcycle is powered by an in-line 3-cylinder engine and final assembly in Hinckley , England. The letters SE stand for Special Edition .

The English sales name Trophy [ ˈtrəʊfi ] means trophy and has been used as a vehicle name since the TR5 (1949–1958). After the Trophy 900 (1991–2001) and Trophy 1200, the current model is the third generation of Trophy Tourers.

development

The number three cylinder was at the start of development for use in the travel Enduro Triumph Tiger Explorer designed and the Trophy, both the drive as well as powertrain are with few exceptions the same. For the tourer, the sixth gear has been translated longer and designed as overdrive . The engine control software, the airbox and the 3-in-1 exhaust system with a right-hand stainless steel silencer have been modified in favor of a "more travel-friendly torque characteristic". KTM in-house designer Gerald Kiska created the optical design of the trophy.

construction

The liquid-cooled three - cylinder engine with a displacement of 1215 cm³ develops 98.5 kW (134 hp); the maximum torque is 120 Nm at 6450 revolutions per minute. The three in-line cylinders of the injection engine have a bore of 85 mm diameter, the pistons a stroke of 71.4 mm; Compression ratio 11: 1. Two gear-driven overhead camshafts (DOHC) control two intake and two exhaust valves per cylinder via bucket tappets . A balance shaft reduces engine vibrations. The motorcycle accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h in 4.0 seconds and, according to the manufacturer, reaches a top speed of 214 km / h.

A three-disc brake system from Nissin decelerates with four-piston fixed calipers at the front and two-piston floating calipers at the rear. The system is designed to be partially integral, the step on the foot brake lever also affects the front wheel in part. The claw-shift gearbox has six gears with helical teeth .

The chassis consists of a front and rear frame with a load-bearing motor- gearbox unit. The 11.3 kg bridge frame is made of square aluminum profiles. The steering head angle is 63 degrees, the caster 119 mm. The suspension setting can be changed electronically in several stages via the spring preload and damping. The braking system decelerates the motorcycle with an average of 9.8 m / s² in 39.5 meters from 100 km / h to a standstill. The standard anti-lock braking system regulates the braking behavior in critical situations. The front wheel is suspended from an upside-down telescopic fork , the rear wheel from an aluminum single-sided swing arm .

The tires measure 120/70 ZR 17 at the front and 180/55 ZR 17 at the rear. The turning circle has a diameter of 6 meters. Ready to drive and with a full tank, the Tourer weighs 317 kg. The maximum payload is 237 kg. The two side cases have a storage volume of 31 liters each.

The fuel tank holds 26 liters. The newspaper tz determined an average fuel consumption of 5.8 liters per 100 km, which results in a theoretical range on country roads of just over 500 km.

The manufacturer recommends using regular gasoline with at least 91 octane . A regulated three-way catalytic converter treats the exhaust gas and lowers the pollutants below the pollutant limit values of the Euro-3 emissions standard .

Reviews

“The mighty Triumph can - once in motion - be steered quite willingly in curves or steered around the corner at walking pace. Among other things, this is due to the beautiful three-cylinder engine that always has enough power ready. So the supposed hard work turns out to be a very simple exercise. Only maneuvering should be avoided as far as possible. "

“A good touring bike needs exceptional comfort. Again the Trophy scores, in particular its rider protection. Passengers are equally well catered for, with plenty of room and a seating position that should be comfortable over long distances. The one negative is the ride quality, which feels restless and jiggling, with potholes jarring the rider. "

“A good tourer needs exceptional comfort. Here, too, the trophy scores, especially when it comes to driver protection. Passengers are accommodated just as well, with plenty of space and a seating position that should be comfortable even over long distances. The only weak point is the ride quality, which feels restless and jarring and shakes the driver when there are potholes. "
