Triumph Sprint

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

With the Triumph Sprint model series , the English manufacturer Triumph launched its first motorcycle in the sports touring segment in 1993 . From the beginning, the three-cylinder in-line engine (triple) was the focus of development and has been continuously developed until today.

The model years mentioned in this article refer to the model years mentioned by Triumph. It is quite common for the models of the following year to be presented at the motorcycle trade fairs that take place in autumn each year and then presented to the dealers.

The 955 engine made its debut in 1997 in the Daytona T595 and was now used in a configuration adapted to tourer needs in the Sprint. In Germany, the ST and a year later the RS are usually delivered in the 98 hp version and only in the open international version on request. The performance data in Germany increased between 1999 and 2001 from 77 kW (105 PS) (Sprint ST) or 79 kW (107 PS) (Sprint RS model) to 81 kW (110 PS) due to the regulated catalytic converter, which is mandatory in Germany .

Year of manufacture 1999

Compared to its predecessor, the Sprint Executive, the Sprint ST 955i has full cladding. The rear wheel is guided by an aluminum swing arm with a central spring strut .

Year of manufacture 2000

The Sprint ST 955i is placed alongside the Sprint RS 955i (RS for Roadster). The RS is advertised by Triumph as a sports motorcycle but is generally assigned to the sports tourer segment and has the following differences compared to the Sprint ST:

  • Instead of full cladding, the Sprint RS has a half-shell cladding
  • The handles are placed lower in line with the demands placed on a sports motorcycle
  • The rear wheel is guided in a double swing arm made of aluminum
  • The aluminum bridge frame is painted black
  • The engine is graphite / silver colored
  • The rims are silver compared to the Sprint ST

In the design, “triple” became the leitmotif and was emphasized by the headlight unit with three projection lenses through to the underseat exhaust system with its three tailpipes. The heat dissipation openings in the full casing were designed as triangles. In addition to the engine, the aluminum bridge frame has also been redeveloped.

The Sprint ST 1050 achieved first place in 2008 and 2009 when it was voted Motorcycle of the Year by “Motorrad” magazine in the “Tourer” category.

After 47,500 motorcycles sold under the Sprint name, in May 2010 the Sprint GT 1050 (GT for Grand Tourer) shifted the concept of the Sprint series from the sporty to the tourist design. The wheelbase, which has grown due to the extension of the single-sided swing arm, the improved seating position for the pillion passenger and the fully equipped suitcase show this externally. In addition, the motor has been revised, and the peak power of 96 kW (131 hp) and the torque to 108 Nm at 6,300 min -1 raised. New reflective headlights ensure improved illumination of the road. The 3-in-1 exhaust system is now back below the case.

Year of construction 2010-2013

  • ABS, which was previously optional on the Sprint ST 1050, is fitted as standard on the Sprint GT
  • Fully adjustable spring strut with a handwheel

The Sprint GT was last officially advertised in Germany in 2013. It is currently still being built and z. B. sold in Great Britain as a Special Edition (SE). A top case was added as standard equipment and the colors offered are Caspian Blue and Cranberry Red.

The information on the maximum speed in the vehicle documents differ between 230 km / h (electronically throttled due to the standard case) and 259 km / h.
